Chapter 10 - The Sovereign Queen of Crestwood

One year later.
The crisp autumn air blew softly across the historic courtyards of Crestwood Meridian Academy, rustling the golden leaves of the ancient oak trees. The majestic stone buildings, towering clock tower, and manicured lawns looked breathtaking under the warm afternoon sun.
The central courtyard was filled with happy sounds—children laughing, books flipping, and students running toward the sports fields.
At the center of the courtyard stood a beautiful new bronze fountain, donated by the Executive Trustee Board. Inscribed on its marble base were the words: “To Strength, Kindness, and Unyielding Truth.”
Sitting on a stone bench near the fountain, seven-year-old Isla Vance was sketching in a leather-bound sketchbook. She wore her pristine Crestwood uniform, her face filled with peace, joy, and bright intelligence. Surrounding her were three classmates, laughing and admiring her beautiful drawing of the clock tower.
"Isla, your drawing is amazing!" a little girl with pigtails exclaimed. "You're the best artist in the whole first grade!"
Isla smiled softly, her eyes shining. "Thank you! My Mommy taught me to look at the light instead of the shadows."
From the second-floor balcony of the Executive Suite, looking down at the courtyard, stood Dr. Emily Vance.
She wore a tailored ivory wool suit, her dark hair styled in an elegant chignon, holding a steaming cup of coffee in her hands. Beside her stood Ms. Sterling, holding the administrative reports for the upcoming academic year.
"All endowment funds are at record highs, Dr. Vance," Ms. Sterling reported with a warm smile. "Application numbers for next term have increased by forty percent, and young Isla has just been selected to represent the primary academy at the Regional Fine Arts Gala."
Emily looked down at her daughter, watching Isla laugh freely with her friends under the golden sunlight. A deep, profound sense of fulfillment and peace washed over her heart.
The trauma of the past was gone. The toxic cruelty of people who thought they could crush them had been burned away by the light of justice.
No longer was she a hidden widow hiding in the shadows of someone else's arrogance. She was a mother who had protected her child, built a fortress of dignity, and claimed her rightful throne.
"Dr. Vance?" Ms. Sterling asked softly. "Is there anything else you require today?"

Emily turned to her assistant, a soft, beautiful, and triumphant smile crowning her face.
"No, Ms. Sterling," Emily said gently, looking out over the magnificent campus that belonged to her and her daughter. "Everything is exactly as it should be."
