Chapter 11 - The Huntington Heir

Six months later.

The summer sun shone brightly over the grand lawn of the Huntington Estate.

Elise was sitting on a soft white blanket near the garden, giggling hysterically as she tried to catch grasshoppers. She was thriving, healthy, and surrounded by unconditional love.

The legal battle was completely finished.

Hayden Bennett had been sentenced to eleven years in federal prison for wire fraud and tax evasion. Brenda Bennett and Chloe Bennett were forced to declare bankruptcy after all their seized assets were auctioned off to pay restitution to the Huntington Foundation.

The mistress, Victoria Sterling, had vanished the moment the penthouse lease was terminated and the assets were locked.

Pamela Vance walked out onto the patio, carrying a thin leather folder.

"The final divorce decree has been logged by the state, Matilda," Pamela said, handing me the document. "You are officially single. And your name has been restored."

Matilda Huntington.

Grandma Margaret walked out onto the veranda, holding two iced teas. She handed one to me and sat beside me, looking at Elise playing in the sun.

"How do you feel?" Grandma asked softly.

I looked down at the divorce papers, then out at my beautiful daughter, and finally at the vast estate stretching out before us—an empire that I would one day run to protect my daughter’s future.

"I feel like I finally woke up," I said, a genuine, powerful smile spreading across my face.

"Good," Grandma Margaret smiled back, clinking her glass against mine. "Because tomorrow, your executive training at Huntington Storage Group begins."

I took a sip of iced tea, feeling the warm sunshine on my skin, knowing that nobody would ever make me feel small again.
