Chapter 9 - The Legal Trap

Chloe stepped forward, her face twisted in contempt. "You owe us! You married into our family! Hayden spent four years dealing with your boring, depressed self! Do you think anyone would actually want you if you weren't rich?"
Snap.
Something inside me, built over four years of emotional abuse, finally snapped—not into pieces, but into titanium.
I took three deliberate steps toward Chloe until I was standing inches from her face. Despite my pale hospital appearance, the sheer authority running through my Huntington bloodline filled the room.
"Your family didn't take me in," I said softly, every word cut like diamond. "You preyed on an orphan. You fed on me like leeches while letting me starve. But parasites die when the host wakes up."
I turned to the lead security officer. "Call Pamela. Tell her to add breaking and entering, harassment, and conspiracy to commit grand larceny to the legal filing against Brenda and Chloe Bennett."
Brenda’s face went completely white. "Conspiracy? What are you talking about?!"
"I have Hayden’s private ledgers, Brenda," I said, holding up the black lockbox. "Every wire transfer to your personal accounts, every fake invoice you signed to wash my grandmother's money—it's all right here."
Brenda gasped, her hands flying to her mouth. She dropped her designer handbag to the floor.

"Matilda... please," Brenda suddenly whimpered, falling to her knees right on the dusty carpet. "We're family! Hayden was just stupid! He led us into this! I didn't know the money wasn't authorized!"
"You called me an orphan wife who needed to be kept on a leash two hours ago," I replied coldly, walking past her toward the front door. "Enjoy the lawsuits, Brenda."
