Chapter 4 - The Eviction

Deborah’s eyes went wide. She shook her head in utter denial. "No... no! That's impossible! Brandon wouldn't—"

"Brandon did," Arthur Vance interrupted, stepping forward and flashing his legal credentials. "My name is Arthur Vance, legal counsel for Mrs. Sabrina Keller. Ten minutes ago, the Superior Court of Los Angeles issued an emergency ex parte order granting Mrs. Keller temporary sole occupancy of this residence, pending the final liquidation of Mr. Keller's fraudulently concealed assets."

Two uniformed police officers pushed their way through the front doors of the mansion, flanked by two private security guards dressed in black tactical gear.

"Officers!" Deborah cried out, running toward them as if they were her saviors. "Thank God! Arrest this woman! She's staging an illegal takeover of my son's house!"

The lead officer stopped, pulled a document from his belt folder, and looked at Deborah coldly. "Are you Deborah Keller?"

"Yes! Yes, I am!"

"Ma'am, we are here to execute a civil eviction order and standby for peace keeping," the officer stated firmly. "This property is currently under the legal custody of Sabrina Keller. All unauthorized occupants are required to vacate the premises immediately."

"Vacate?!" Deborah shrieked, her voice reaching a piercing register. "This is my home! My son bought this house!"

"With money stolen from my father's inheritance," I corrected, walking down the marble stairs. "Which makes it my property."

Outside, the sounds of screaming echoed from the driveway.

Brandon came staggering back through the front doors, his costly suit jacket torn at the shoulder, his tie crooked, his knuckle bleeding where he had punched a concrete pillar after losing Marcus in the estate grounds.

"Sabrina!" Brandon roared, his eyes bloodshot, looking like a demonic ghost of his former self. He lunged toward me, his hands clawing at the air. "I'll kill you! You ruined my life! You destroyed everything!"

Before he could get within five feet of me, Arthur’s security team stepped in. Two heavy-set men grabbed Brandon by his arms, twisting them behind his back, forcing him down onto his knees in the middle of the foyer.

The position was poetically familiar. It was the exact spot where Brandon had forced me to stand two weeks ago when he brought Tiffany home, telling me I had to obey him or be cast out.

Now, Brandon was on his knees on his own floor, gasping for air, weeping with rage and helplessness.

"Brandon Keller," I said, standing right over him, looking down into his trembling eyes. "For ten years, you made me feel like I was broken. You brought your mistress into my home. You humiliated me in front of your family, your friends, and your business partners. You thought because I stayed quiet, I was weak."

I bent down slightly, bringing my face close to his, my voice dropping to a dangerous whisper that only he could hear.

"I wasn't weak, Brandon. I was waiting."

Brandon stared at me, his lip quivering. The terrifying reality of his situation was finally crashing down on his arrogant mind. His career was over. His reputation was ruined. The child he boasted about was a lie. His wealth was frozen. And the wife he treated like dirt held his entire destiny in her hands.

"Sabrina..." Brandon whimpered, tears cutting clean streaks through the dust on his cheeks. "Please... baby... don't do this to me. We can talk about this! I was tricked! Tiffany seduced me! She lied to me! We can start over... I'll get treatment! We can adopt!"

I let out a soft, melodic laugh that chilled him to the bone.

"Adopt?" I asked smoothly. "With a convicted fraudster? Oh, I forgot to mention, Brandon... while I was digging into your fertility records, Arthur found the offshore accounts in the Cayman Islands where you deposited embezzled funds from Keller Enterprises."

Brandon’s jaw dropped. The last bit of color drained from his lips.

"The Securities and Exchange Commission was notified an hour ago," Arthur added pleasantly from behind me. "I believe federal agents are currently waiting at your corporate headquarters."

Brandon let out a low, pathetic wail, his forehead dropping against the cold marble floor.

"Officers," I said, addressing the police. "Please escort Mr. Keller, his mother, and his guest off my property. They have ten minutes to collect their personal belongings. Anything left behind will be thrown in the trash."

"You can't throw me out!" Deborah screamed as a female officer grabbed her arm. "My designer bags! My jewelry!"

"Ten minutes, Deborah," I said, turning my back on her. "I'd start with the cheap stuff if I were you."
