Chapter 6 - The Boardroom Coup

The emergency shareholders' meeting of Sterling Enterprises was held on Wednesday morning in the grand executive boardroom on the forty-fifth floor.
The room smelled of polished mahogany, expensive coffee, and high-stakes tension. Twenty-two board members—men and women who had spent decades voting in lockstep with Victoria Sterling—sat around the massive oval table, whispering nervously among themselves.
The chair at the head of the table, usually occupied by Victoria, sat empty.
At precisely 9:00 a.m., the double doors swung open.
Alexander walked in, flanked by Marcus Vance and two federal marshals holding subpoena binders. He wore a crisp charcoal suit, his expression as impassive as granite. He walked straight to the head of the table and sat down in the chairman’s seat.
“Good morning, everyone,” Alexander said, his voice cutting through the whispers like a scalpel.
Sir Reginald Croft, a senior board member and longtime ally of Victoria, cleared his throat noisily. “See here, Alexander! This theatrical coup is unprecedented. Where is your mother? We received an emergency injunction petition this morning claiming—”
“My mother is currently under federal investigation for wire fraud, forgery, tax evasion, and extortion,” Alexander interrupted, sliding a certified document across the mahogany table toward Reginald. “Feel free to review the federal indictments at your leisure.”
The boardroom erupted into chaos. Voices overlapped, papers rustled, and several directors turned pale.
“Quiet!” Alexander commanded, slamming his palm against the table. The sharp crack silenced the room instantly.
“For years, my mother used this corporation as a personal piggy bank and an instrument of terror,” Alexander said, looking around the table, meeting the eyes of every single director. “She embezzled funds, manipulated contracts, and terrorized my family under the guise of protecting the Sterling legacy. That era is over.”
“Alexander, we had no knowledge of—” Reginald stammered.
“I don't care whether you knew or not,” Alexander cut him off coldly. “As the majority shareholder holding seventy-two percent of voting stock, I am dissolving the executive oversight committee, firing our current external audit firm for gross negligence, and restructuring the corporate charter to implement strict ethical compliance oversight.”
He stood up, leaning over the table, his eyes burning with absolute resolve.
“Anyone who wishes to resign can leave right now through those doors. Anyone who stays will work for a company built on truth, accountability, and integrity—not fear and theft. The choice is yours.”
Nobody moved.

Silence filled the boardroom, heavy and absolute. One by one, senior directors lowered their heads, tacitly surrendering to the new reality.
The Sterling empire had a new king, and he wasn't going to rule from the shadows anymore.
