It wasn't a long, drawn-out war. It was a swift, surgical annihilation of their financial assets, shipping routes, and safehouses. By the end of the week, Vincent Moretti was forced to call an unconditional surrender, begging for a truce.
Rory sat at the head of the mahogany table in his downtown headquarters, listening to the defeated syndicate boss grovel over a secure satellite phone.
“You broke the rules, Vincent,” Rory said coldly, leaning back in his leather chair. “You brought children into our business. For that, your family is exiled from the eastern seaboard permanently. If I ever see a Moretti operative in New York again, I won't negotiate.”
He slammed the phone down onto its cradle, cutting off the frantic pleas.
He rubbed the bridge of his nose, feeling a profound wave of physical and mental exhaustion wash over him. The war was won. The threat was neutralized.
