The woods were a labyrinth of shadow and damp pine, but Benjamin moved with a singular, desperate focus. Every snap of a twig sounded like a gunshot, and the distant wail of sirens signaled that the net was tightening around them. They were less than five miles from the Burlington city limits, but the terrain had become treacherous, filled with ravines that threatened to slow their progress to a crawl.
"We aren't going to make it by noon on foot," Sarah panted, leaning against an ancient oak tree to catch her breath. She clutched the encrypted drive, her knuckles white with tension.
Benjamin stopped, his ears pricking up at the sound of a low, rhythmic drone overhead—a police drone, likely scanning the thermal signatures of the forest floor. He pulled Sarah into a dense thicket of underbrush just as a spotlight swept over their previous position.

As he kicked the engine into life, the roar was deafening in the silence of the woods. They sped onto the narrow, gravel backroads, putting miles between them and the immediate pursuit. They were racing against the clock, with the automated upload timer ticking down toward a revelation that would shatter the Senator’s carefully constructed reality.
