Chapter 9 - The Fall of the House of Fletcher

The steel door swung open with a heavy screech.

Vance stepped into the room first, flanked by two towering men in dark tactical attire carrying suppressed firearms. Behind them stood Senator William Fletcher, his hands resting casually inside his trench coat pockets.

“Take the ledger,” William ordered the guards, not even bothering to look at me. “Make sure he doesn't leave this property alive. Load him into the trunk of his rental car and drive it into the lake near the north boundary. Make it look like an accidental drowning following a high-speed pursuit.”

“You’re too late, William,” I said calmly, standing beside the console with my arms crossed.

William stopped, his dark eyes narrowing. “What are you talking about?”

I pointed toward the small black phone resting on the desk behind me. Its screen was glowing bright red, displaying a live counter of active viewers.

Live Stream Active: 1.4 Million Viewers.

“You spent forty years building an empire on secrets and fear,” I said, my voice echoing clearly through the room. “You thought power meant owning judges, police chiefs, and politicians. But you forgot one simple rule of the modern world.”

William stared at the phone screen, his face slowly draining of all color.

“Nothing stays hidden when the light gets turned on,” I said.

On the phone screen, comments were scrolling past at lightning speed: - "Is this Senator Fletcher?" - "Holy shit, he just ordered a murder on live camera!" - "The FBI needs to get there NOW!" - "I'm calling the state police!"

“Kill the feed!” William shrieked, his polished, politician’s composure instantly shattering into wild, unhinged panic. “Vance, grab that phone! Kill the feed right now!”

Vance lunged forward, but before he could reach the desk, the distant, thunderous wail of sirens began to echo from the property grounds above.

Not one or two sirens. Dozens of them.

Red and blue police lights began flashing through the high high-arched windows of the mansion’s ground floor above us, illuminating the dark stone stairwell in a violent, strobing rhythm.

Heavy tactical boots thundered down the stone steps.

“FEDERAL AGENTS! DROP YOUR WEAPONS! DROP YOUR WEAPONS NOW!”

A squad of heavily armed FBI Hostage Rescue Team officers burst through the steel door, flashlights cutting through the darkness, submachine guns trained directly on William Fletcher, Vance, and the two security guards.

“ON THE GROUND! ALL OF YOU! GET ON THE GROUND NOW!”

The two private security guards immediately dropped their suppressed firearms and slammed themselves onto the concrete floor. Vance raised his hands, his face pale as paper, trembling as an officer tackled him to the ground and snapped flex-cuffs around his wrists.

Senator William Fletcher stood frozen in the center of the room, his eyes wide, his hands still raised half-heartedly as three federal agents pushed him against the stone wall.

As the agent snapped steel handcuffs onto the Senator’s wrists, I stepped forward, picking up my phone from the desk.

“Senator Fletcher,” I said softly, looking him dead in the eye as he was forced to his knees. “Your campaign is over.”
