Chapter 8 - The Final Dose

Thorne was not a man to go down quietly. Desperate to salvage his reputation and cover his tracks, he made a fatal mistake: he attempted to visit me at my home under the guise of an "amicable settlement."

He arrived on a rainy Tuesday, his suit impeccable, his smile predatory. He brought a bottle of expensive champagne—a cruel, taunting gesture. He didn't know that I had already rigged the house. I had hidden high-definition cameras in the study and connected a recording device to the intercom system.

"Karina," he said, pouring the champagne. "Let's be reasonable. Withdraw the accusations against Jason, sign these papers, and we can all walk away rich."

"And if I refuse?"

He leaned in, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. "Then accidents happen, just like they almost did to you at that restaurant. You’re an old woman, Karina. It’s so easy for the world to believe you finally slipped away."

As he spoke, he poured the liquid into my glass. I didn't drink. I watched him. At that moment, I signaled to Sylvia, who was watching from the security room. She hit the command that triggered the house-wide audio broadcast, announcing, "Police have been dispatched to this residence. All audio and video evidence is currently being uploaded to the District Attorney's server."

Thorne’s face turned from arrogance to ash. He realized he had walked into a trap. He bolted for the door, only to find the police waiting on the front lawn, tipped off by the very evidence he had just provided by threatening me on record.
