Chapter 9 - The Trial of the Decade

The trial of Jason Warren and Julian Thorne was the spectacle of the year. I was not just a witness; I was the star prosecutor’s greatest asset. I testified for three days, breaking down the toxicology reports, the financial fraud, and the psychological manipulation with such clinical precision that the defense’s attempts to discredit me as "senile" collapsed before they even began.

I looked at Jason in the defendant's chair. He looked small, pathetic, and utterly defeated. He didn't even look at me; he couldn't bear to see the woman he had underestimated.

When the verdict came—guilty on all counts—I didn't feel a surge of triumph. I felt a sense of profound relief. The poison had been drained from my life. Sylvia sat beside me, gripping my hand. She had become the woman I always knew she could be: strong, discerning, and fiercely loyal.

The judge’s gavel sounded like a thunderclap, sealing the fate of the men who had sought to build their future on the ruins of my life.
