Chapter 10 - The Reclaiming of Self

Six months later, the manor was quiet, but it was a peaceful silence. I had sold the estate—the site of so much greed—and purchased a modest, beautiful home overlooking the coast, where the air was always fresh and the ocean provided a constant, calming rhythm.
Sylvia had begun her own firm, focusing on legal advocacy for the elderly, ensuring that no one would ever be gaslit into silence the way she and I had been.
On a bright Sunday morning, I walked out onto the balcony, coffee in hand. I was no longer the "lonely widow." I was Karina, a woman who had faced the darkest parts of human greed and survived.

"Yes, dear," I said, turning to face her with a smile that reached my eyes. "I'm ready for wherever we go next."
The plane took off, carving a silver path through the clouds. As I looked down, the city where I had fought my final battle looked like nothing more than a speck in the vast, beautiful world that was waiting for us. I was free. And for the first time in thirty-two years, the future was entirely my own to write.
