Chapter 6 - The Smart Home Secrets

Richard didn't blink. He didn't flinch. He didn't step back.

He looked at Ethan the way a seasoned sniper looks at a stationary target through a crosshair.

"You think money makes you untouchable, boy," Richard said quietly.

"It’s not money, Colonel," Ethan laughed, crossing his arms over his chest, relishing the theater of his own perceived dominance. "It’s leverage. Emily knows what happens if we divorce. Her name is tied to corporate NDAs, financial non-disclosures, and binding arbitration clauses signed before a battery of high-priced attorneys. She belongs to my world now. You lost her six years ago."

"Dad..." Emily sobbed from the floor, crawling forward and grabbing the hem of Richard’s trousers. "He records everything. He has cameras in the hallways, microphones in the walls... he uses the smart home system to monitor every single breath I take."

Richard looked down at his daughter, then slowly raised his eyes back to Ethan.

The billionaire’s smirk faltered just a fraction.

"Is that right?" Richard murmured.

"Of course it is," Ethan scoffed, recovering his arrogant posture. "This house is fully automated. Every conversation, every interaction, every tear she cries is backed up to an encrypted cloud server located in downtown Nashville. Even if you shoot me—which you won't, because you're a civilized old fool—the server automatically triggers a legal hold that destroys anyone who tries to cross me."

Ethan thought he was confessing to secure his dominance.

He didn't realize he had just given Richard the exact piece of tactical intelligence he needed.

"An encrypted cloud server," Richard repeated, his voice eerily calm.

"That's right," Ethan sneered. "So put the gun away, Colonel. You lost."

What Ethan didn't know was that Richard hadn't spent thirty years in the United States Army just leading infantry platoons. During his final decade of service, he had served as a senior liaison officer for military cyber-intelligence operations, working alongside NSA specialists to intercept and dismantle high-level digital communications networks.

While Ethan had been talking, Richard’s left hand had slipped quietly into his jacket pocket.

His fingers found the ruggedized military-grade data tap he always carried—a device designed to clone and mirror local Wi-Fi and IoT protocols within a hundred-foot radius.

With a subtle flick of his thumb, Richard activated the device.

Blink. A tiny green LED light flashed once inside his pocket.

Instantly, his secure satellite phone began syncing with Ethan’s master home automation network, downloading every stored video file, audio recording, and text transcript archived on the mansion's private server over the last six years.

Every bruise.

Every threat.

Every shattered piece of crystal.

All of it streaming directly into military-grade memory banks held by an old friend sitting in a command van parked three miles away.

"You talk too much, Ethan," Richard said softly.

Ethan frowned, sensing a sudden shift in the room's energy. "What did you say?"

"I said," Richard stepped forward, closing the distance between them with terrifying speed, "your game is over."

Before Ethan could react, Richard lowered the barrel of his SIG Sauer and delivered a lightning-fast, military-spec buttstroke to the side of Ethan’s jaw.

The impact cracked like a gunshot.

The tech billionaire didn't even have time to scream. His eyes rolled back into his head, his knees buckled under him, and he crashed hard onto the hardwood floor, knocked completely unconscious.

Silence descended upon the master bedroom once more.

Emily covered her mouth with her hands, staring in shock between her unconscious husband and her father.

May you like

Richard holstered his weapon, dropped to his knees beside his daughter, and pulled her into his arms.

"I've got you, Emily," he whispered, pressing his lips against her hair as she finally broke down completely, weeping tears of relief against his chest. "You're safe now. Nobody is ever going to hurt you again."
