Chapter 5 - The Reckoning

The aftermath of the gala was a whirlwind of legal battles and public shame. My father’s empire began to collapse under the weight of the scrutiny I had initiated. He was forced into early retirement, his reputation in tatters, his social circle evaporated.

He tried to meet with me, finally—not to apologize, but to beg for help in salvaging what was left of his name. We met in a sterile, public café. He looked old. Truly, devastatingly old.

"You destroyed everything," he rasped, his hands trembling as he reached for his coffee.

"I didn't destroy anything," I replied calmly. "I just turned the lights on."

I told him then—for the first and final time—what it was like to grow up in his shadow. I told him why Maisie would never have to know him. It wasn't a shout; it was a quiet, firm dismantling of his entire worldview. He left that café a broken man, not because I had won, but because he had finally run out of people to lie to.
