Chapter 8 - The Price of Pride

The collapse of Grant and Celeste was even more brutal than my father’s. With their assets frozen and their credit destroyed, the veneer of their high-society life crumbled in hours. I found out through my investigators that Grant had been trying to sell private, sensitive documents from the company to a competitor to cover his gambling debts.

I didn't step in to stop him. Instead, I tipped off the authorities.

When the police arrived at the estate to arrest Grant for corporate espionage, I was watching the livestream from my office. Celeste was there, screaming at the officers, her hair undone, the image of a woman who had staked her entire existence on a lie. She looked at the cameras, her eyes wild, likely realizing that I was the one pulling the strings.

She sent me a text—her last attempt at manipulation. “You’ll regret this, you little monster. We’ll find a way to destroy you.”

I hit 'block.' It was the most satisfying thing I had done all week. I didn't regret anything. Regret is for people who think they had a choice. They had their choice when they decided to abuse me; I was simply ensuring they lived with the consequences.
