Chapter 3 - The Digital Avalanche

Chaos erupted. Security rushed toward the stage, but Leo was already moving toward the back exit. I watched from my bedroom, my breath hitching as I realized my son had known all along. He hadn't been an innocent bystander; he had been the sleeper agent in the heart of the enemy camp.

I opened the “Project Legacy” file. It was a masterpiece of forensic accounting. Every time Julian had laundered money through the Foundation’s charity galas, every secret offshore account in the Cayman Islands, and the paper trail for the illegal acquisition of the firm’s main assets—it was all there.

Sixty-eight million dollars. A fortune that had been built on the backs of people who thought they were donating to a cause.

My fingers hovered over the ‘Send All’ button. This wouldn't just ruin Julian’s career; it would dismantle the Albright name entirely. It would drag me down with him, as the documents also contained my digital signature from years of involuntary complicity. I was the architect of his safety, the one who had kept the books clean until I realized the bloodstains underneath.

I heard the front door open.

My pulse spiked. Julian was home early. The gala must have been aborted. I heard his heavy, rhythmic footsteps ascending the stairs.

"I know you're awake," his voice resonated through the house, devoid of its usual charm. It was flat, dangerous. "You think Leo’s little stunt changes anything? He’s a child. And you? You’re a liability."

He reached the bedroom door. He tried the handle. Locked.

"Open it," he commanded. "We are going to have a conversation about that file, and you are going to delete it."
