Chapter 7 - The Uncharted Path

Six months later, the wind was biting and cold, carrying the scent of salt from the Atlantic. I stood on the deck of a small, weather-beaten fishing boat in a coastal town three thousand miles from the life I once knew.

I wasn't "Mrs. Albright" anymore. I was simply a woman with a new name, a small savings account, and a suitcase that contained nothing of value from my past.

Leo was at a small university in the Pacific Northwest, studying architecture—building things that actually stood on their own merit, rather than structures built on lies. We spoke every Sunday, carefully, through encrypted channels. He was healing, and for that, the entire ordeal had been worth it.

I looked down at my wrist. It was bare. The sapphire bracelet was sitting in an evidence locker, a relic of a dead era. I didn't miss it.

I looked out at the horizon as the sun began to dip into the ocean. The world was vast, unforgiving, and completely empty. There were no more files to hide, no more secrets to bury, and no more expectations to meet.

For the first time in my life, I had no plan. I had no empire to manage. I had no husband to appease.

I turned away from the railing and walked into the small cabin of my boat, picking up a pen and a blank notebook. I had spent years writing lies for others. It was time to start writing my own truth, one page at a time.

The gala, the mansion, the sixty-eight million—they were just footnotes in a story that was finally, finally mine to write. I sat down, opened to the first page, and began: “Chapter One: The Day I Woke Up.”
