The hospital was a blur of fluorescent lights and shouted orders. I arrived under the name "Jane Doe," terrified that Genevieve’s network would reach into the medical system. I kept my head down, my breath rattling in my chest, as the nurses moved with efficient, detached professionalism.
When the pain finally peaked and the world seemed to shatter into white light, there was a sudden, piercing cry.
My son was born in the quiet hours of the morning. When they placed him on my chest, the world stopped. He had Julian’s dark hair and a grip that was surprisingly strong. In that moment, the fear that had been eroding my soul for weeks vanished, replaced by a cold, sharp resolve. I wasn't just Isabelle the widow anymore; I was a mother, and I had everything to lose.
While I recovered, Thornecroft arrived at the hospital, his suit disheveled, his eyes wide with a mix of shock and triumph. "Isabelle, you did it. The data dump triggered a massive federal investigation. Marcus Vane has already been detained, and the board has ousted Genevieve. She’s being served with criminal conspiracy charges as we speak."
