Chapter 10 - The Legacy Reclaimed

Six months later, the estate felt different. The air was no longer thick with secrets, but filled with the sound of a child’s laughter.

I stood on the balcony overlooking the grounds, the morning mist clinging to the gardens. I had transformed the foundation into a beacon of support for victims of the very crimes Genevieve had facilitated. Julian’s legacy was no longer a hoard of wealth—it was an engine for justice.

Thornecroft walked onto the balcony, handing me a final envelope. "It’s over, Isabelle. The last of the litigation is settled. You own it all, free and clear."

"It’s not just mine," I said, lifting my son, Julian Jr., into my arms. "It’s his. And he will know exactly who his father was."

I walked back inside, leaving the past behind. I had entered this family as a stranger, and I had been forged in the fire of their betrayal. But as I looked at the portrait of Julian hanging in the foyer, I saw his eyes reflect back at me, not with the sorrow of his death, but with the pride of a man who had won.

I was no longer the widow of a tragic accident. I was the architect of my own destiny, and for the first time in my life, I wasn't just surviving. I was home.
