Chapter 5 - Sylvia and Bianca’s Awakening

Evan stared at the shattered ceramic on the floor, his heart hammering against his ribs like a trapped bird.

“Evan, are you going to answer that?” Sylvia asked, her voice trembling slightly as she watched her son’s face turn the color of wet limestone. “Who on earth is visiting on Christmas morning?”

Slowly, mechanically, Evan walked toward the massive double front doors. He pulled them open, expecting holiday well-wishers or perhaps a courier.

Instead, standing on the snow-dusted stone porch were two men in dark wool overcoats, holding leather briefcases. Behind them sat a sleek black government-issue sedan with tinted windows.

“Evan Ward?” the taller man asked, his voice entirely devoid of emotion.

“Yes,” Evan stammered, gripping the edge of the doorframe. “Who are you? What is this?”

“I am Agent Vance, representing the primary estate trust of Colonel Arthur Ellis,” the man said crisply, handing Evan a thick, heavy manila envelope stamped with multiple red wax seals. “You are hereby served with a formal Notice of Asset Repossession and Vacate Order pursuant to Section Nine of the matrimonial contract executed on June 14th, 2021.”

Bianca stepped down the stairs at that exact moment, wearing a silk designer robe, holding a glass of mimosas. “Babe, who’s at the door? Is it the magazine photographer already? Oh—who are these men?”

Evan didn't answer. He ripped open the envelope and pulled out the topmost document.

Bold, unyielding print stared back at him:

NOTICE OF IMMEDIATE EVICTION AND PROPERTY SEIZURE. REASON: Gross Marital Misconduct, Financial Abandonment, and Breach of Trust. EFFECTIVE PROPERTY OWNER: Arthur Ellis Trust. TIME TO VACATE PREMISES: 2 hours.

“This... this is absurd!” Evan shouted, his voice cracking with sudden, hysterical rage. “I built this company! I bought this house! I’m a billionaire tech executive! My father-in-law is just a retired old gardener living in a cabin! You can’t take my home!”

Agent Vance looked at Evan with quiet, absolute pity.

“Mr. Ward,” Vance said evenly, “you never owned a single brick of this house. The deed was purchased outright on Day One using venture capital funds provided exclusively by Colonel Ellis’s private blind trust. Your tech firm’s servers, your patents, your bank accounts, and even the clothes in your closet are legally bound to the primary trust. As of 8:00 AM today, your access rights have been entirely revoked.”

Bianca’s glass slipped from her hand, champagne splashing across her designer slippers as it hit the floor.

“What... what did he just say?” Bianca whispered, her eyes darting between Evan and the federal agent. “Evan... what is he talking about? You said you were a billionaire! You said we owned all of this!”

“Bianca, wait, let me explain—” Evan reached for her, but she recoiled as if he carried a plague.

“Don’t touch me!” Bianca shrieked, her face twisting in pure, venomous fury. “You lied to me! You’re a broke nobody playing dress-up with an old man’s money! I am not staying another minute in this freezing house with a fraud!”

She turned on her heel, sprinting back up the stairs toward the master suite to pack her designer bags, leaving Evan standing frozen in the doorway while the winter wind howled around him.
