Chapter 4 - The Digital Web and Donald’s Alliance

While Paxton recovered his strength in secret, pretending to remain unresponsive whenever Kelly entered the room, I began building our offensive outside the mansion walls.

Using a burner phone Donald had smuggled in inside a hollowed-out loaf of sourdough bread, I contacted Marcus Vance—an elite corporate defense attorney and a trusted college friend who specialized in high-stakes white-collar litigation in Phoenix.

I met Marcus in the dimly lit corner of an all-night diner twenty miles away from the Scottsdale estate, slipping out through the garage while Kelly was asleep.

Across the vinyl booth, Marcus listened in stunned silence as I laid out the entire conspiracy: Raymond’s embezzlement, the fabricated medical power of attorney, Kelly’s poisoned injections, and the multi-million-dollar insurance fraud.

“Jesus Christ, Nicole,” Marcus breathed, running a hand through his hair. “This isn't just a dysfunctional family dispute. This is a premeditated murder-for-hire plot wrapped in corporate embezzlement.”

“They have millions of dollars, Marcus,” I said, leaning forward, my voice steady and cold. “And they have the local political connections to bury us if we make a single misstep. We need federal backing.”

Marcus pulled a secure flash drive from his pocket and slid it across the table. “Donald’s workshop foreman crew hacked into the primary server of Raymond’s cosmetics distribution chain yesterday. They found the paper trail. Raymond and Holden weren't just struggling with inventory in San Diego—they had been systematically looting the company pension fund and taking illegal loans from offshore syndicates. If Albert doesn't bail them out with Paxton’s capital, both brothers are looking at federal penitentiary time for grand larceny.”

“That’s why they needed Paxton out of the way,” I realized. “With Paxton dead, Albert would inherit his industrial refrigeration empire, clear his brothers' debts, and sweep the embezzlement under the rug.”

“Exactly,” Marcus nodded, tapping the table. “Here’s our play. We don't stop them on Friday. We let Albert execute that digital signature in Tokyo. The moment he logs in with the master key, the corporate kill-switch trips. Federal marshals are already briefed and standing by in Phoenix, San Diego, and Tokyo. The trap won’t just close on Albert and Lillian—it’s going to snap shut on the entire dynasty.”

“And Kelly?” I asked.

Marcus smiled grimly. “We let her finish writing her final diary entry in that black notebook. Then we hand her over to the grand jury as our primary cooperating witness.”
