Chapter 7 - The Trap Springs Shut

“This... this is an absurdity!” Albert stammered, regaining a fraction of his aristocratic arrogance as he thrust a finger toward Paxton. “You’ve concocted some delusional scheme with your ungrateful wife! We were in Tokyo managing international assets! We have witnesses! We have legal documentation!”

“You have a federal warrant for conspiracy to commit murder, wire fraud, forgery, and grand larceny,” Marcus Vance interrupted smoothly, stepping forward and flipping open a thick leather folder filled with stamped legal indictments.

Marcus began reading aloud, his voice cutting through the room like a razor.

“On November fourteenth, Albert Hunter forged digital banking credentials to initiate an illegal asset transfer exceeding twelve million dollars. Simultaneously, Raymond and Holden Hunter utilized embezzled corporate funds from family-held cosmetic subsidiaries to cover offshore debts, utilizing falsified medical power of attorney documents to incapacitate Paxton Hunter against his will.”

Raymond’s face turned ghost-white. He looked wildly around the room, taking a step toward the front door. “This is a setup! We’re leaving—!”

“Don't even think about it, Raymond,” one of the federal marshals commanded, resting his hand firmly on the grip of his sidearm as he stepped to block the exit.

Lillian let out a shrill, hysterical cry, pointing a trembling finger directly at me. “It was Nicole! She poisoned him! She brought that nurse into the house! She wanted to steal our family fortune!”

“Mother,” Paxton said, his voice dripping with icy contempt. “Nicole was the only person in this house who didn't try to kill me. But don't worry—Kelly’s signed confession, complete with recorded bank wire receipts originating from your personal Swiss account, details every single step of your little murder plot.”

Kelly sobbed loudly from the corner, refusing to look at Lillian or Albert. “I’m sorry! I’m so sorry! They made me do it!”

“You lying cow!” Lillian shrieked, lunging forward as if to scratch Kelly’s eyes out, but two marshals instantly stepped in, pinning Lillian’s arms behind her back with cold efficiency.

“Albert Hunter, Lillian Hunter, Raymond Hunter, and Holden Hunter,” Marcus announced loudly, looking across the room at each member of the dynasty in turn. “You are under federal arrest. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.”

The gleaming gold-plated gates, the expensive Italian marble floors, the designer suits, and the illusion of untouchable perfection dissolved in an instant.

One by one, the federal marshals snapped steel handcuffs onto the wrists of the people who had ruled their world through fear, intimidation, and greed.

Albert glared at Paxton with a look of pure, venomous hatred as the marshals led him toward the front door. “You’ll rot in court for this, Paxton. You’ve destroyed your own family.”

“No, Albert,” Paxton replied quietly, standing tall beside me with his hand resting firmly on my shoulder. “I just finished cleaning house.”
