Chapter 10 - From the Ashes

One year later.

The grand opening of the Alexander Cross Foundation for Children was attended by the state governor, city leaders, and hundreds of prominent figures from across the country.

Located on a sprawling fifty-acre estate overlooking the Hudson River—the former site of the Ross family estate, which had been completely demolished and rebuilt from the ground up—the foundation served as a state-of-the-art sanctuary, hospital, and school for underprivileged and vulnerable children.

Clara stood on the grand stage set up on the front lawn, wearing an elegant ivory dress that showed off her radiant, glowing skin.

Beside her stood a polished marble monument—a beautiful statue of a mother holding an infant angel, engraved with simple, timeless words:

In Memory of Alexander Cross. May his light forever protect the innocent.

Applause thundered across the lawn as Clara cut the crimson ribbon, officially opening the gates of the sanctuary to the world.

I stood in the front row of the audience, wearing a tailored navy suit, watching my wife with a pride that filled every corner of my heart. Dante stood two steps behind me, a subtle smile playing on his usually stoic face.

“The perimeter is secure, Boss,” Dante whispered softly. “The city is quiet. Every port, every street, every district is peaceful.”

“Good,” I replied quietly.

After the ceremony ended and the guests began exploring the grand gardens, Clara walked off the stage and came straight toward me.

She took my hand, a radiant, beautiful smile lighting up her face, and placed my hand gently against her stomach.

I froze.

My heart skipped a beat as I felt the soft, unmistakable warmth beneath her dress.

“Clara…?” I whispered, my voice trembling with an emotion that no underworld war or billions of dollars could ever buy.

Clara looked up into my eyes, tears of pure joy glistening in her dark eyes.

“Four months, Damon,” she whispered, her voice filled with quiet, triumphant happiness. “It’s a girl.”

I pulled her into my arms, lifting her off her feet, holding her against my heart as the afternoon sun bathed the estate in golden light.

I had spent my life building an empire of shadows, ruling a world through fear, power, and absolute control. But as I held my wife and felt the tiny heartbeat of our daughter beneath her dress, I knew my true empire was standing right here in my arms.

The darkness of our past had been burned away. And together, from the ashes, we had built a future that no force on earth could ever tear apart.
