Chapter 6 - Handcuffs in Silk

The heavy double doors swung open once more, and six uniformed city police officers strode into the ballroom, led by a stern captain.
“Mr. Sterling,” the captain nodded respectfully to my father. “We received your direct dispatch regarding a felony conspiracy, false accusation, and assault.”
Eleanor shrieked, backing away. “Officers! This is a private family matter! You can’t arrest us!”
“Silence, ma'am,” the captain snapped. He walked over to Chloe, who was sobbing hysterically in her torn jeweled wedding dress, and grabbed her wrists, pulling them behind her back.
CLICK.
The cold metal handcuffs snapped shut around Chloe’s wrists.
“Chloe Vance,” the captain announced loudly. “You are under arrest for grand larceny, filing a false police report, framing an innocent citizen, and criminal conspiracy.”
“Mommy! Help me!” Chloe screamed, thrashing as the officer pulled her toward the door. “Dominic! Do something!”
Dominic remained on his knees, staring blankly at the floor, completely broken.
The officers then turned toward Amanda, slapping handcuffs on her wrists as well. Amanda broke down instantly, screaming at Chloe: “You told me she was poor! You said she wouldn't be able to fight back! You promised me fifty thousand dollars to hold the ring! I’m telling the prosecutor everything!”
The entire ballroom exploded into gasps and furious chatter. Photographers who had been hired to record Chloe’s dream wedding were now snapping endless flash photos of the bride being led away in handcuffs.

Eleanor ran after her daughter, weeping hysterically, but Mr. Harrison stepped into her path with two heavy security guards.
“Mrs. Vance,” Mr. Harrison said with cold professionalism. “You are officially banned from every Sterling hotel, resort, and golf club worldwide. Furthermore, as the legal owner of this venue, I am revoking your event permit immediately.”
