Chapter 10 - A New Legacy

Six months later.

The grand opening of the new Sterling International Tower was the event of the season. Hundreds of global business leaders, media moguls, and dignitaries gathered in the soaring glass atrium to celebrate the launch of the world’s most advanced sustainable commercial center.

I stood at the top of the grand marble staircase, looking down at the bustling crowd.

I wore a floor-length, custom emerald-green silk gown that flowed elegantly around my figure. My hair was styled in soft, regal waves, and around my neck hung a delicate diamond necklace that had belonged to my mother.

In my arms, wrapped in a plush cream blanket, was my three-month-old daughter, Maya.

My father stood beside me, his arm wrapped proudly around my waist as flashbulbs burst across the floor.

“Ladies and gentlemen,” my father’s voice echoed through the microphone, commanding the absolute attention of the room. “It is my distinct honor to introduce the new CEO and Chairwoman of Sterling Global Hospitality… my daughter, Vivienne Sterling.”

Thunderous applause erupted throughout the massive atrium.

Down near the public entrance at the edge of the security perimeter, a man stood behind the velvet ropes, clutching a guest pass he had managed to secure through his low-level job.

It was Dominic.

He was wearing a cheap, off-the-rack suit, his face worn, tired, and aged far beyond his years. He watched from the shadows as the woman he had once allowed his family to humiliate stood at the pinnacle of wealth, power, and elegance, holding his daughter in her arms.

He took a step forward, his eyes brimming with silent, desperate tears, but two towering Sterling security officers instantly moved into his path, blocking his view and forcing him back into the crowd.

I caught a brief glimpse of him from the top of the stairs, but my heart didn't flutter. I didn't feel anger, nor did I feel revenge.

I felt nothing at all.

I turned away from the shadows, looking down at my daughter’s sleeping face, then stepped forward to address the world that was finally mine.
