Chapter 9 - The Final Confrontation

The final showdown came three nights later under a blanket of heavy canyon fog.
The rival syndicate, led by a ruthless capo named Marcus Vance, made their final, desperate move. They didn't send grunts this time; they launched a full-scale assault on the main house, cutting the estate's power grid and blowing the secondary gates with C4 explosives.
Inside the mansion, emergency red backup lights bathed the hallways in an eerie, pulsing glow.
"Stay in the panic room with the children," Ricardo ordered, strapping a tactical vest over his chest and checking the magazine of his rifle.
"No," Elena said, stepping out of the master bedroom wearing dark clothing and holding a heavy iron fireplace poker. "I’m staying right here with you."
Ricardo started to argue, but one look at the stubborn, unyielding fire in her eyes told him it was useless. He nodded once. "Stay behind my shoulder."
For the next twenty minutes, the grand halls of the Moretti estate echoed with the sounds of a running gunfight. Ricardo moved through the corridors with cold, lethal precision, neutralizing the intruders one by one, while Elena covered his blind spots, using her intimate knowledge of the house layout to guide them safely through the shadows.
They fought their way down to the grand foyer, where Marcus Vance himself stood holding a heavy-caliber revolver, backed by his last two remaining mercenaries.
"Drop your weapons, Flores!" Vance shouted, pointing his gun toward the upper staircase where Valentina and her siblings were peering out from behind a reinforced security gate. "Or the kids watch their daddy die right here!"
Ricardo froze, lowering his rifle an inch. The trap was set.
"You want me, Marcus," Ricardo said coldly, taking a step forward. "Leave the children out of this."
"I want everything you built!" Vance snarled, tightening his finger on the trigger.
Before Vance could fire, a sharp, metallic click echoed from the balcony above.
Valentina stood on the second-floor landing, holding one of her father's spare handguns with both hands, her aim pointed directly at Vance's head.
"Get away from my family," Valentina said, her voice completely steady, echoing with the cold, fearless authority of a true mafia princess.
Vance laughed, turning his gun toward the stairs. "You think a little girl is going to—"
Before Vance could finish his sentence, Elena threw the heavy iron poker like a javelin, catching him squarely in the chest and knocking him off balance. At the exact same second, Ricardo raised his rifle and fired, neutralizing Vance instantly.
