Chapter 6 - The Voice Regained

Two weeks later.

The dark clouds that had hovered over the Castillo estate for three long years had finally parted, replaced by bright, warm morning sunlight.

The house staff had been completely replaced with vetted, loyal professionals. The security team was doubled. The eastern wing where Elena had been held was completely demolished, slated to be turned into a glass greenhouse.

In the master library, Elena sat in a plush armchair near the fireplace.

She wore a simple, elegant ivory silk dress. Her dark hair fell gracefully over her shoulders, and though she was still thin, the color had returned to her cheeks, and the haunted look in her eyes had been replaced by a quiet, formidable strength.

Alejandro walked into the room carrying two cups of warm tea. He set one down beside her and sat on the ottoman in front of her, taking her hands in his.

"The federal prosecutor called this morning," Alejandro said gently. "Gabriel’s bail was denied. He’s being held in a maximum-security facility pending trial. Vivian pleaded guilty to secondary kidnapping and corporate conspiracy yesterday. She’s facing twenty-five years."

Elena looked into the flickering flames of the fireplace, her expression calm, unreadable.

"Do you know what kept me alive in that dark room, Alejandro?" she asked softly.

He looked at her, his heart heavy with love and reverence. "What, my love?"

"It wasn't just the hope that you were looking for me," she said, turning her dark eyes to meet his. "It was the knowledge of who I was before they took me. They wanted me to forget my name. They wanted me to believe I was nothing more than a servant, a nameless shadow cleaning floors."

She squeezed his hand with a sudden, surprising firmness.

"When I heard your shoes on that marble floor two weeks ago... when I dropped that bucket... I knew the nightmare was over. But I didn't just want to be saved, Alejandro. I wanted them to pay."

Alejandro smiled—a rare, proud smile. "They are paying, Elena. Every single one of them. The Moretti family empire has been dismantled. Their assets are being auctioned off to pay for your restitution fund."

Elena stood up from the armchair, walking toward the floor-to-ceiling windows that overlooked the sprawling gardens.

"I want to go back to Italy," she said, her voice clear and strong.

Alejandro stood up behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist, resting his chin gently on her shoulder. "To Florence?"

"Yes," she replied, leaning back against his broad chest. "Not as a victim, but to reclaim my life. I want to reopen the gallery. I want the world to know that Elena Castillo did not break."
