Chapter 7 - A MOTHER’S REVENGE

When a beast is backed into a corner, it snaps.

By the end of the week, Lorraine Monroe had been released on a fifty-thousand-dollar bail posted by an old distant relative. Instead of keeping a low profile, she went on the attack.

A viral video appeared on TikTok and Instagram late Thursday evening.

Lorraine sat in a modest hotel room, wearing no makeup, squeezed into a simple dark sweater, weeping uncontrollably into a tissue.

"Please, everyone, I need your help," Lorraine sobbed toward the camera. "My son Derek and I are being brutally targeted by a multi-millionaire medical tycoon, Dr. Walter Harrington, and his unhinged granddaughter, Allison. They are using their billions to frame my innocent son! Allison suffered severe postpartum mental breakdowns and abandoned her family duties. My son worked tirelessly in construction to support her while she hid away! Now they are using fake audio recordings and corrupt lawyers to steal our family’s life savings and put my boy in prison!"

The video caught fire online. Within twelve hours, it had accumulated over three million views. Comments flooded in from outrage-hungry viewers:

@JusticeSeeker99: "Rich people always frame the poor! #JusticeForDerek"

@MamaBear_CT: "If she really lived in a trailer while he worked construction, why is she suddenly living in a $28M mansion? Something smells fishy!"

My grandfather’s PR firm frantically called us at 7:00 AM on Friday morning, suggesting we issue a soft, neutral statement saying the matter was "a private legal issue undergoing court review."

"No," I said, standing up from the breakfast table. "No soft statements. No defensive PR. We hit back with total transparency."

"Allison," the PR director warned over the speakerphone, "the public loves an underdog story. Right now, Lorraine is playing the poor, victimized mother very well."

"Then let's show the public who the real underdog was," I said.

Two hours later, with my grandfather’s full backing, I held a live press conference on the front steps of the Connecticut State Supreme Court in Hartford.

I didn't wear designer clothes. I wore a simple navy blazer and plain slacks. I stood behind a podium flanked by my legal team and held up a clear plastic folder containing certified, notarized documents.

"My name is Allison Monroe," I said, looking straight into the lenses of twelve major news cameras. "Yesterday, my former mother-in-law, Lorraine Monroe, released a video claiming I suffered from mental illness, abandoned my family, and that my husband worked in construction to support us. Today, I am releasing the public evidence."

I opened the folder and held up the first document.

"This is the certified medical record from Albany Medical Center. It proves that while my husband was living in a twenty-eight-million-dollar estate in Connecticut, my four-year-old son, Caleb, was treated for severe malnutrition and vitamin deficiency due to a diet forced upon us while living in an unheated mobile home."

I held up the second document.

"This is the official wire transfer audit from First National Bank. It shows that over twenty-four months, $2.4 million was withdrawn from my trust fund. Not a single dollar went to construction equipment or family support. $800,000 went directly to Lorraine Monroe’s personal credit cards for trips to Aspen, Paris, and designer boutiques in Manhattan."

Finally, I pulled out a USB drive and held it up for the cameras.

"On this drive is the full, unedited video footage recorded by security cameras inside this estate on Tuesday afternoon, showing Lorraine Monroe threatening to have me removed by security while wearing my deceased mother's stolen Cartier bracelet—a bracelet she claimed was stolen in a home burglary."

I leaned close to the microphone, my eyes fixed on the central camera lens.

"Lorraine, you wanted the public to pay attention to this story. Now they are. See you in court on Monday."

The press conference went live across every national network. Within one hour, Lorraine’s TikTok video was taken down. The public narrative flipped instantly. The internet turned its full wrath against the Monroes, transforming them into national symbols of narcissistic greed and fraud.
