Chapter 4 - The Boardroom Siege

The boardroom was a clinical space of glass and steel, cold enough to freeze blood. When Julian walked in with Mara by his side, a silence so profound it was painful descended upon the room. Camille was already there, seated at the head of the table, her face a mask of calculated fury.

“Gentlemen,” Julian announced, his voice echoing against the floor-to-ceiling windows. “Before you vote on my leadership, there is a correction to the record that must be made.”

He signaled to his legal team. Files were distributed—records not of modern business, but of history. He spoke of the displacement of families, of the broken promises, and of the true origin of the Hartwell capital. He didn't just confess; he laid the architecture of his own destruction bare.

Camille stood up, trembling with rage. “He’s lost his mind! He’s trying to bankrupt his own legacy for a maid and a trinket!”

“It isn’t a trinket,” Julian said, stepping toward her, his presence dwarfing the room. “It’s justice. And as of this morning, I am transferring the majority voting shares into a trust that will return the land rights to the original owners. This company is no longer a monarchy, Camille. It’s an atonement.”

The reaction was chaotic. Voices rose in outrage, but Julian didn’t flinch. He looked at Mara, who stood near the door, her head held high. In that moment, he felt the first real peace he had known in twenty years.
