Chapter 5 - The New Foundation

The fallout was swift and brutal. By the end of the week, the Hartwell Corporation had been restructured, and Julian had resigned from the board to avoid a hostile takeover. His reputation in the city had been shredded by the press—they called him the "Billionaire Who Went Mad."
He didn't care. He moved out of the grand estate, which was being converted into a foundation for displaced families, and into a modest, quiet home on the edge of the city.
Mara found him one evening in the garden, planting trees where there had once been nothing but concrete. Ivy was playing nearby, chasing fireflies, her laughter cutting through the twilight.
“They’re saying the company stock is stabilizing,” Mara said, handing him a glass of water. “Turns out, people actually respect honesty when they’re forced to confront it.”
Julian wiped the dirt from his hands and looked at her. The "lethal" look he had once directed at the world was gone, replaced by a profound, quiet strength. “Let them stabilize. I’m not interested in the stock price anymore.”

Mara squeezed the charm, then closed her hand over his. The war was over. The wreckage of the past had been cleared away, and for the first time, the future wasn't something to be controlled—it was something to be built, together.
