Chapter 10 - Building Haven

Two years later.
The afternoon sun blazed over the sparkling waters of the Atlantic, casting golden light across the green lawn of Adrian’s coastal estate.
Laughter rang out across the grass. Tess, now ten, was riding a new bicycle down the paved driveway. Eight-year-old Sadie was sitting on a picnic blanket, carefully painting watercolors of the ocean, while six-year-old Nora chased a golden retriever puppy across the lawn.
The three girls were healthy, vibrant, and filled with the joyful innocence that had once been stolen from them.
On the wrap-around stone porch, Abigail stood leaning against the wooden railing, watching her daughters with a peaceful smile. She wore a simple, elegant cream dress, her face radiant with health and happiness.
A pair of warm hands gently rested on her waist from behind.
Abigail leaned back into Adrian’s chest, feeling the steady, reassuring heartbeat that had become her anchor over the past two years.
"What are you thinking about?" Adrian asked softly, resting his chin lightly near her shoulder.
"I was thinking about the first day I met you," Abigail said, turning in his arms to look up into his gray eyes. "When you knelt down on that marble floor and covered my babies with your coat."
"It was the best decision I ever made," Adrian replied, his voice filled with deep tenderness. He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a small, velvet-lined mahogany box.
Abigail’s breath hitched.
Adrian didn't kneel out of corporate power or grand gestures; he simply held her gaze, opening the box to reveal a timeless, shining diamond ring.
"You and your girls brought light into a house that had been silent for far too long, Abigail," Adrian said softly. "I don't ever want to face another sunset without you. Will you marry me?"
Tess, Sadie, and Nora came running up the wooden porch steps, crowding around them with bright, eager eyes.
"Say yes, Mommy! Say yes!" Nora giggled, clutching Adrian’s trousers.
Abigail looked down at her three daughters, then back at the man who had fought for them, protected them, and loved them back to life.

Tears of pure joy welled in her eyes as she wrapped her arms around Adrian's neck.
"Yes," Abigail whispered against his cheek, as her daughters cheered and the sun rose high over their brand-new life. "A thousand times, yes."
