Chapter 7 - The Unbroken Truth

The room erupted into chaos. Board members gasped, and two officers stepped forward toward Sarah.

Owen didn't hesitate. He stepped smoothly in front of Sarah, putting his formidable physical frame between her and the police.

“On whose authority, Julian?” Owen asked, his voice low and dangerous.

“On the authority of the District Attorney’s warrant!” Croft sneered, a triumphant smile stretching across his face. “She stole those design files from my company server night before last! We traced her IP address!”

“Did you?” Owen replied coolly. “That’s fascinating, Julian. Because Sarah didn't download those files from your server.”

Owen gestured to Marcus, who was standing near the door. Marcus opened a leather folder and handed a stack of documents directly to the lead police officer.

“What is this garbage?” Croft snapped.

“That,” Owen said, stepping around the table to face Croft directly, “is a federal search warrant executed three hours ago on Croft Enterprises’ private servers by the Department of Justice.”

Croft’s arrogant smile instantly vanished.

“My security team didn't just investigate Sarah’s background,” Owen explained smoothly. “We investigated yours. We found six offshore bank accounts used to bribe municipal inspectors, systematic tax fraud, and most importantly... the black-box data recorder from the truck that struck Daniel Miller’s car two years ago.”

Sarah gasped, clutching her chest.

“Your driver didn't run, Julian,” Owen said, his eyes drilling into Croft’s soul. “He took the truck directly to a repair shop owned by your shell company. We located the mechanic this morning. He gave a full confession in exchange for federal immunity.”

Croft’s face turned gray. He took a step back, looking toward his lawyers, but both attorneys subtly took a step away from him, realizing the ship was sinking fast.

The lead police officer read the federal document, then turned his gaze from the paper to Julian Croft.

“Julian Croft,” the officer announced, pulling out a pair of handcuffs. “You are under arrest for corporate fraud, obstruction of justice, and conspiracy to commit vehicular homicide.”

As the handcuffs clicked around Croft’s wrists, the room remained frozen in awe. Croft was led out of the boardroom in silence, his empire crumbling in a matter of seconds.

Sarah collapsed into her chair, tears spilling over her cheeks—not of fear, but of an overwhelming, long-awaited justice. Daniel’s memory was clean. Her daughter was safe. Her nightmare was finally over.

Owen walked over to her, kneeling beside her chair. He gently placed a hand over hers.

“You did it, Sarah,” Owen whispered. “You stood your ground.”

Sarah looked at him through her tears, reaching out to squeeze his hand tightly. “We did it, Owen. Together.”
