Chapter 8 - Sanctuary of the Heart

One year later.
The autumn leaves once again painted Central Park in brilliant shades of amber, gold, and crimson.
Along the winding path near Bethesda Fountain, a small family walked at a leisurely pace. A little girl in a bright red coat skipped ahead, chasing a stray leaf in the crisp morning breeze, her white sneakers stepping lightly across the stone.
Behind her walked Sarah and Aleandro.
They weren't surrounded by an army of armed guards, nor did they look over their shoulders in fear of assassins or betrayal. They walked side by side, their fingers firmly and proudly interlocked.
Aleandro Moretti—the coldest mafia boss in New York, the man who had ruled an empire with fear and iron—was smiling. A real, unguarded, effortless smile that reached all the way to his eyes.
Lily stopped near the edge of the fountain, turning around with a bright, gap-toothed grin, holding out her small hand toward her father.
“Daddy, come on! The ducks are waiting!”
Aleandro squeezed Sarah’s hand gently, stepping forward to take his daughter’s outstretched palm.
He had spent years believing that love was a liability, that protection meant isolation, and that his world had no room for light. He had been wrong. The greatest strength a man could ever possess wasn't the power to destroy his enemies—it was the courage to hold the hand of the people who made him whole.

“I’m coming, princess,” Aleandro called out, his voice rich with absolute joy.
As they walked together into the golden autumn sunlight, the ghosts of the past finally faded into silence, leaving behind only the bright, unending promise of tomorrow.
