Chapter 10 - A New Dawn

Two years later.

The Moretti estate—now renamed Grayhaven Manor by public decree—no longer looked like a fortress guarded by fear. The iron gates stood open during the day, welcoming neighbors, friends, and the doctors and families connected to the Sofia Moretti Medical Foundation.

In the sunlit courtyard, a five-year-old boy with bright amber eyes and a contagious laugh was running across the emerald grass, chasing a golden retriever puppy.

“Catch me, Daddy! Catch me!” Matteo shouted, his voice ringing out with vibrant, healthy energy.

I stood on the stone veranda, laughing as I sprinted down the steps, scooping my son up into the air as he shrieked with delight. I hoisted him onto my shoulders, letting him grab my hair like reins as we trotted across the lawn.

From the veranda steps, Elena walked down carrying a tray with fresh lemonade and sliced fruit. She wore a simple white summer dress, the sunlight catching the soft waves of her hair.

I walked over to her, setting Matteo down gently so he could run back to chase the puppy.

Elena handed me a glass of lemonade, her amber eyes sparkling with quiet amusement. “You’re letting him win again.”

“He’s the boss of this house now, you know that,” I smiled, wrapping my free arm around her waist and pulling her close against my side.

Elena rested her head against my shoulder, looking out across the flourishing gardens, the bright playroom windows, and the towering Japanese maple tree that now stood tall and strong, its branches thick with green leaves.

“It’s a good life, Luca,” she murmured.

“The best,” I replied, pressing a kiss to the top of her head.

We stood together in the golden afternoon light—a family forged through darkness, tested by betrayal, and saved by a legacy of fierce, unbreakable love. The past was a shadow we had walked through, but the future was ours, bright and unyielding, stretching out before us like an endless sunrise.
