Chapter 7 - The Boardroom Reckoning

By noon, the glass-walled boardroom on the forty-second floor of Holloway Infrastructure Headquarters in Manhattan was buzzing with nervous energy.
The remaining board members—men and women in expensive suits who had spent years tiptoeing around Adrian’s aggressive corporate maneuvers—sat in absolute silence as Grant Holloway strode down the center aisle.
He didn't wear his usual dark, defensive armor. He wore a crisp navy suit, his posture tall, his eyes sharp and completely clear.
Behind him walked Detective Marcus Vance and corporate legal counsel carrying thick files stamped with federal indictment seals.
“Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen,” Grant said, taking his seat at the head of the polished obsidian table.
An executive near the end cleared his throat nervously. “Grant... we heard rumors about Adrian. The police... the federal warrants?”
“Adrian is currently being held without bail at the Manhattan Detention Center,” Grant stated flatly, opening his leather portfolio. “He attempted to assassinate me yesterday using an industrial neurotoxin, financed through corporate shell accounts embezzled from our quarterly infrastructure reserves.”
Shocked gasps erupted around the table. Several board members pushed their chairs back, pale with terror.
“Furthermore,” Grant continued, raising his hand to silence the room, “our forensic audit has revealed that Adrian’s embezzlement wasn't limited to yesterday. For the past five years, he systematically manipulated our subsidiary contracts, artificially inflating project costs and covering his tracks by intimidating anyone who asked questions.”
“My God,” muttered the senior board vice-president. “What happens to the Milwaukee acquisition now?”
“The acquisition moves forward,” Grant said firmly. “But under entirely new leadership. Effective immediately, the Office of Estate Operations and Charitable Trust Foundations will hold controlling voting shares in all subsidiary projects, overseen by Mrs. Claire Bennett.”
He gestured toward the side door.
Claire walked into the boardroom, wearing a sharp charcoal blazer, holding a tablet containing the restructured compliance reports. She looked calm, poised, and utterly unstoppable.
Emma sat beside her in a small auxiliary chair near the window, coloring a picture of a golden retriever while wearing a brand-new medical bracelet inscribed with her emergency allergy profile—secured by the finest medical team in the state.
“Are there any objections?” Grant asked, sweeping his gaze across the boardroom table.

Not a single person spoke. In the face of undeniable integrity, absolute strength, and a leader who had finally woken from his own personal nightmare, opposition was impossible.
“Meeting adjourned,” Grant said, closing his portfolio with a crisp snap.
