Chapter 10 - THE DAWN OF A NEW DYNASTY

Three months later.
May had arrived, bringing warm sunshine, blooming red roses, and sweet green grass to the gardens of Estate Rossi.
The dark, dead maple tree where Emma had knelt three months ago was now covered in lush green leaves.
I sat on the outdoor patio, sipping black espresso, reading the morning edition of the New York Times. The front page headline read: APEX PHARMA CEO SENTENCED TO LIFE WITHOUT PAROLE; ROSSI FOUNDATION DONATES $50M TO PEDIATRIC NERVE RESEARCH.
A sudden sound of light, fast footsteps caught my attention.
I looked up.
Running across the green lawn, chasing a colorful butterfly with a plastic net, was my six-year-old daughter, Isabella.
She wasn't using a cane. She wasn't holding anyone's hand. She was running—fast, free, her cheeks rosy with health, her golden hair flying in the warm spring breeze.
Right beside her, giggling loudly, was four-year-old Emma, wearing a tiny red sundress that matched Isabella's.
Sophia stood near the rose bushes, holding a basket of freshly cut flowers, watching the girls play with a peaceful, beautiful smile on her face. She was no longer wearing a maid's uniform. She wore an elegant silk dress—the Director of the newly established Elena Rossi Children’s Hospital.
I set my coffee cup down, walking down the stone steps onto the grass.
Isabella saw me and turned around, her small face lighting up. "Daddy! Look how fast I can run!"
She sprinted across the lawn, throwing herself into my arms. I lifted her high into the air, holding her tight against my chest, feeling her strong, healthy heart beating against mine.
"You're faster than the wind, my sweet princess," I laughed, setting her down gently.
Little Emma ran up, grabbing my hand, looking up with her bright blue eyes. "Don Matteo! Isabella said we can build a treehouse in the big maple tree!"
"You can build whatever you want, little one," I said, kneeling down and ruffling her golden curls. "This whole estate belongs to you girls now."
Sophia walked over, setting her flower basket on the stone bench.
"The adoption papers arrived from the court this morning, Don Matteo," Sophia said softly, pulling a thick envelope stamped with the state seal from her tote bag.
I took the papers.
With the approval of the family court, Sophia and Emma were now legally and officially protected under the Rossi bloodline. Emma was officially Isabella's legal sister, and Sophia was the co-trustee of the Harrington-Rossi Family Estate.
In our world, blood isn't just about biology. Blood is about who stands beside you when the dark comes knocking at your door.
"Thank you, Matteo," Sophia whispered, her eyes shining with quiet tears.
"No, Sophia," I said, looking out over the sunlit gardens where my two daughters were already running toward the fountain. "Thank you. You brought the light back into this house."
I reached into my pocket, pulling out the silver pomegranate charm.
The silver leaves caught the bright May sunshine, sparkling like a diamond. I walked over to Isabella, fastening the chain gently around her neck.
"Keep this safe, sweetheart," I whispered.
Isabella looked down at the charm, then looked up at me with a brilliant, unclouded smile.
May you like
"I will, Daddy," she said, taking Emma's hand in hers. "Because it remembers."
And together, hand in hand, the two little girls ran into the sunshine, leaving the dark behind forever.
