Chapter 9 - Fire and Retribution

Before Marco’s finger could even touch the trigger, a thunderous shot shattered the air.

BANG!

Marco dropped his weapon, clutching his shoulder as he fell to his knees, screaming in pain.

Dominic stood over him, smoke curling from the barrel of his pistol. His expression was utterly terrifying—the expression of the true Monster of Chicago.

“You betrayed my brother,” Dominic snarled, stepping on Marco’s wounded shoulder, forcing him flat onto the blood-stained floor. “And then you brought guns into the house where my nephew sleeps.”

“Dominic… please… Valenti paid me millions—” Marco begged, spitting blood.

“I don’t care about the money,” Dominic whispered, leaning down. “You threatened my family.”

Dominic signaled his men. “Take him to the basement. I’ll deal with him personally once the sun comes up.”

The guards dragged the screaming traitor away.

Dominic turned back to Sophie. The murderous fury in his eyes instantly vanished, replaced by deep concern. He rushed up the stairs, taking her face in his hands, checking her over.

“Are you hurt? Did he scare you?”

Sophie shook her head, leaning into his warm touch. “No. I knew you wouldn't let him hurt us.”

Dominic pulled her into a fierce, tight embrace, burying his face in her hair while holding her and Julian close to his heart.

“Never again,” he whispered. “Tomorrow, the Valenti family ceases to exist.”
