Chapter 8 - Where the Sunshine Lands

One year later.

Spring had returned to the Meridia estate. But the mansion no longer looked like a cold, silent fortress hidden behind iron gates.

The heavy steel bars had been removed from the perimeter windows. The courtyard was filled with blooming white hydrangeas, pink peonies, and vibrant green grass. Sunlight poured through every open window, carrying the sweet smell of spring rain and ocean breezes.

A large wooden gazebo had been built near the center of the lawn, surrounded by fairy lights and fresh floral arrangements. Forty close friends, foundation board members, and staff members sat on white wooden chairs, smiling brightly.

Gabriel stood at the altar inside the gazebo, wearing a custom navy tuxedo. Beside him stood Marcus, serving as his best man, looking sharp and proud in his own formal suit.

The violin quartet began to play a gentle, romantic melody.

The crowd stood up.

Walking down the aisle first were the flower girls—Sophia and Lily.

Sophia was wearing a little pink tulle dress, throwing rose petals into the air with wild enthusiasm.

Beside her was Lily.

She wore a matching dress, her cheeks rosy with health, her blonde curls bouncing in the sunlight. She carried a small basket of flowers, walking firmly, unassisted, and confident on her own two legs—without a training frame, without braces, and without pain. She paused, looked at her father standing at the altar, and let out a bright, joyful giggle before running the rest of the way into his open arms.

Gabriel knelt down, caught Lily in a warm embrace, kissed her forehead, and set her gently beside Marcus.

Then, the music shifted into a breathtaking bridal chorus.

Emma walked down the white carpet.

She wore an off-the-shoulder gown of delicate ivory lace that draped beautifully over her full, gorgeous figure. A long veil trailed softly behind her, catching the golden sunlight. In her hands, she held a simple bouquet of wild lilies and white roses.

Gabriel felt his breath catch in his chest. He had seen empires rise and fall, but looking at Emma walking toward him, he knew he was looking at the greatest victory of his life.

When she reached the steps of the gazebo, Gabriel extended his hand, leading her up to stand beside him.

The officiant smiled warmly at the couple. “We are gathered here today to unite Gabriel Moretti and Emma Brooks in holy matrimony—a union built not on circumstance, but on faith, courage, and unconditional love.”

As the officiant read the vows, Gabriel looked into Emma’s bright blue eyes, his heart overflowing with a peace he had never imagined possible.

“Gabriel,” Emma spoke her vows softly, her voice carrying clearly across the quiet garden. “You gave me a home when I was lost. You showed me what it means to be protected, valued, and loved. I promise to hold your hand through every storm, to laugh with you in every sunshine, and to cherish our family for all the days of my life.”

Gabriel squeezed her hands, his voice deep and resonant as he replied. “Emma, you walked into my dark world and brought the light. You healed my daughters, saved my life, and taught me how to love again. I give you my heart, my name, and my eternal protection. From this day forward, you will never stand alone.”

“By the power vested in me,” the officiant announced, “I now pronounce you husband and wife. Gabriel, you may kiss your bride.”

Gabriel wrapped his arms around Emma’s waist, lifting her slightly off her feet, and kissed her deeply under the canopy of white roses.

The crowd erupted into wild applause and joyous cheers.

Sophia and Lily ran forward, throwing their small arms around their parents' legs, laughing happily. Gabriel and Emma broke their kiss, leaning down together to scoop up both of their daughters into one massive, warm family embrace.

The spring sun shone bright over the Meridia estate, casting long, golden light across the green lawn where a once-broken family now stood—whole, triumphant, and bound forever by truth and love.
