Chapter 8 - The Queen of Mercer Hill

Six months later.
The summer sun shone brightly over the manicured grounds of Mercer Estate, casting golden light across the blue ocean waters of Boston Harbor.
The grand ballroom—once cold, dark, and filled with memories of grief—had been completely transformed. White roses, silk drapes, and live classical music filled the vast space with warmth and life.
Two hundred guests stood around the dance floor—city leaders, business partners, household staff, and family friends.
At the head table sat six-year-old Lily, wearing a sparkling pink princess dress, happily eating strawberry shortcake beside old Dominic, who was wearing a brand-new suit and laughing softly at her jokes.
On the center dance floor, the orchestra began to play a gentle, romantic waltz.
Adrian Mercer held his wife in his arms.
Claire was breathtaking.
She wore a custom-designed, off-the-shoulder ivory lace gown that celebrated every lush, beautiful curve of her full figure. Her brown hair fell in soft, glossy ringlets over her shoulders, and around her neck hung a priceless diamond necklace—a Mercer family heirloom.
She looked radiant, happy, and entirely confident in her own skin.
Adrian spun her gently across the polished floor, his dark eyes fixed solely on her face, ignoring the applause of the crowd around them.
“You’re staring, Mr. Mercer,” Claire teased softly, resting her hand against his broad chest, feeling the steady, warm beat of his heart.
“I’ll be staring for the rest of my life, Mrs. Mercer,” Adrian replied, pulling her flush against his body as the waltz reached its peak.
He leaned down, his lips brushing against her ear. “Do you remember the first night I found you sleeping in Lily’s room?”
“I thought you were going to fire me,” Claire laughed gently.
“I knew the second I saw your hand locked in hers,” Adrian whispered, his voice thick with deep, everlasting devotion, “that you were the missing piece of my soul. You saved my daughter, Claire. And then you saved me.”
Claire looked up into his eyes—the eyes of a man who had conquered a city, but surrendered his entire heart to her.
She reached up, resting her hand against his cheek. “I love you, Adrian.”

“I love you, my Queen,” Adrian murmured.
He dipped her low under the sparkling crystal chandeliers, pressing his lips to hers in a deep, passionate kiss that sealed their love forever—a promise written in iron, warmth, and the everlasting light of home.
