Chapter 9 - Justice and Redemption

The final chapter of the syndicate’s war against the Moretti empire was written on a stormy Tuesday night in a private aircraft hangar near Newark Liberty International Airport.

Victor Vance, the syndicate executive who had orchestrated the medical sabotage, thought he was escaping to South America on a private jet funded by stolen endowments. Instead, as his chauffeured sedan rolled onto the tarmac, the hangar doors slammed shut behind him, plunging the vast concrete space into shadow.

Headlights flared. Three armored SUVs surrounded his vehicle, their high-beams blinding the driver.

Vance pushed his door open, stepping out into the wind and rain with a panicked expression. “What is this? Who authorized this? Do you know who I work for—?”

A heavy pair of boots crunched against the wet concrete.

Gabriel Moretti stepped out from the glare of the headlights. He wore a dark wool overcoat that billowed slightly in the wind, his face carved from granite. Behind him stood Vincenzo and a dozen armed security specialists.

“You work for a corpse,” Gabriel said coldly.

Vance’s face lost all color. He backed away until his spine hit the door of his sedan. “Gabriel… let’s talk. We can negotiate. The syndicate has assets—millions—that we can transfer to your accounts—”

“I don't want your money, Victor,” Gabriel interrupted, his voice cutting through the roar of the jet engines idling in the distance. “You targeted my children. You conspired to keep my daughter crippled for corporate profit and criminal leverage.”

“I was just following orders from the board!” Vance screamed, falling backward onto the car seat as Gabriel closed the distance between them.

“Then you can deliver my reply to them in hell,” Gabriel said quietly.

He stepped back, gesturing to Vincenzo. “Secure the evidence, hand him over to federal marshals with the complete unredacted asset trail, and make sure he spends the rest of his natural life behind maximum-security glass.”

“Done, Boss,” Vincenzo replied.

Gabriel turned his back on the screaming executive, climbed into his waiting vehicle, and ordered the driver to take him home. The war was over. The shadows that had haunted the Moretti name for years were finally swept away by truth, vigilance, and uncompromising justice.
