Three months had passed since the fall of the Bellamy estate, and the city’s power structure had shifted, settling into a new, jagged configuration. Mara was no longer an observer; she was a fixture in the Moretti tower. Her days were a relentless cycle of corporate espionage, high-stakes negotiations, and learning the brutal art of the deal under Dante’s tutelage.
She walked into the boardroom, the click of her heels echoing like a heartbeat against the polished obsidian table. The room was filled with men twice her age, their expressions a mix of skepticism and apprehension as she took the head chair—Dante’s chair.
"The merger with Vane Logistics is off," she announced, her voice devoid of hesitation. She slid a tablet across the table, displaying a trail of shell companies that linked the CEO of Vane directly to a human trafficking ring. "They are not just liabilities; they are a cancer. If we associate with them, our stock will not just dip; it will be delisted within forty-eight hours."
Dante stood by the window, his silhouette dark against the afternoon glare. He watched her with a look of predatory pride.
"The board is asking for a vote," one of the older associates spat. "Who are you to cancel a billion-dollar deal?"
"I am the one who found the evidence while you were busy debating the quarterly dividends," Mara replied, her gaze cold. "You have two choices: vote to proceed and watch the SEC swarm this office by dinner, or vote to sever ties and let me acquire their assets at a fraction of the cost."

The tension in the room was electric. Mara didn't blink. She had learned that power wasn't about being liked; it was about being the one with the information everyone else was too cowardly to acknowledge. The board members exchanged nervous glances, then, one by one, they nodded.
Dante walked over, placing a hand on the back of her chair. "She has your proxy," he said to the room, his voice a low, warning rumble. "And she has my absolute confidence. Meeting adjourned."
