Chapter 7 - Blood on the Ledger

By sunrise, the rain had stopped, leaving behind a cold, crisp sky painted in streaks of crimson and gold.

The battle at Pier 4 was over. Dr. Vance was in the custody of federal agents loyal to Caden, along with a complete digital drive containing every stolen record, financial ledger, and forged birth certificate from Saint Augustine’s Genesis Clinic.

At 8:00 AM, Caden Voss and Elena Voss executed a dual strike that shattered the city’s underworld.

While federal marshals raided Saint Augustine’s Hospital, arresting Dr. Aris Thorne in his private office, Caden’s private force surrounded the grand estate of Vincent Moretti.

There was no firefight at Moretti's mansion.

When Moretti opened his front doors to find Caden Voss standing on his porch, backed by twenty armored SUVs and a federal seizure warrant signed by a state supreme court judge, the old mob boss knew he was finished.

Beside Caden stood Elena, holding a tablet that was actively broadcasting the complete freeze of Moretti's offshore assets to federal prosecutors in real time.

"You're done, Vincent," Caden said softly, stepping into Moretti's grand foyer. "You touched my family. You stole my children's mother. And now, I am taking every dollar, every dock, and every breath you have left."

Moretti looked at Elena, his face pale, his hands shaking. "You... a waitress..."

"No," Elena said, stepping forward, her voice ringing out like a silver bell. "I am Elena Voss. Mother of Leo, Julian, and Maya. And the auditor who just sent your entire syndicate to prison for the rest of your life."

Two hours later, as the news vans swarmed the front of Saint Augustine's Hospital, another smaller, quieter justice was served.

At the diner on 5th Street, Gary was standing behind the counter, loudly boasting to a customer about how he had fired "that unhinged waitress" the night before.

The diner doors flew open.

Four men in sharp black suits stepped inside, followed by a representative from the city building inspector's office and a senior bank officer.

"Gary Jenkins?" the bank officer asked.

Gary blinked, his smug smile faltering. "Yeah? What's going on?"

"Your commercial lease for this property has been purchased by The Vance-Voss Charitable Foundation," the officer announced smoothly. "Furthermore, an immediate audit of your payroll records has revealed systematic wage theft against eleven employees over three years. The property is condemned, your accounts are frozen, and you have ten minutes to clear your personal items before police arrive to issue a warrant for grand larceny."

Gary’s face went completely grey. He looked out the window and saw a sleek black limousine parked at the curb.

Inside the rear window, sitting quietly beside Caden Voss, was Elena. She didn't look angry. She didn't look triumphant. She simply looked down at him with quiet, absolute victory, before the dark tinted window rolled up, and the car pulled smoothly away into the morning light.
