Chapter 8 - The Red Ribbon Tied High

Six months later.
The Moretti estate in Tuscany, Italy, sat nestled among rolling green hills, sprawling vineyards, and ancient olive groves. The afternoon sun cast a warm golden hue over the stone villa, where the smell of fresh wood-fired pizza and rich tomato sauce drifted through the open courtyard windows.
Inside the courtyard, a small gathering of forty people sat around long wooden tables decorated with white linen and olive branches.
There were no politicians here today. No corrupt judges, no reporters, no armed guards in tactical suits. Only the loyal captains who had proven their heart, Leo Hale who was now studying law at Oxford, and the family that had been forged in the fire of betrayal.
At the head of the courtyard stood a small wooden altar under an arch of blooming white jasmine.
Standing before the priest was Alessandro Moretti, looking sharp and handsome in a dark blue linen suit.
Down the stone pathway, wearing a simple, breathtaking cream lace dress, walked Sophia Bennett. Her dark hair was styled in soft braids, her face glowing with genuine happiness. She didn't look like a housekeeper anymore. She looked like the queen of the estate she now owned and ruled beside the man who loved her.
Walking right before her, carrying a small velvet ring box, was five-year-old Emma.
Emma wore a matching cream dress, but tied high in her golden curls was a bright red silk ribbon—the same color ribbon she had worn on the day she stopped a wedding six months ago. Around her neck, the silver cross sparkled brightly against the Italian sun.
She stopped in front of Alessandro, holding up the ring box proudly.
“I didn't drop them, Mr. Moretti!” Emma announced loudly to the entire courtyard.
The guests broke into warm laughter.
Alessandro knelt down on one knee—just as he had done on the marble aisle six months ago—and looked into the little girl’s bright blue eyes.
“You never drop anything important, Emma,” Alessandro whispered, taking the small gold band from the box. “Thank you for being my brave little hero.”
Emma giggled, leaning forward to press a sweet kiss against his cheek before running over to take her seat beside her uncle Luca, who proudly handed her a small slice of fresh peach.
Alessandro stood up and turned to Sophia, taking her hands into his own.
“Sophia,” Alessandro said, his voice deep and filled with an emotion he had hidden for twenty long years. “For twelve years, you lived in my home, silently taking care of everything around me, while I was too blind to see that the greatest treasure in this world was right under my roof.”

Sophia’s eyes welled with happy tears. “You gave us a life, Alessandro. You gave my daughter a future where she never has to be afraid.”
“No,” Alessandro smiled softly, sliding the gold band onto her finger. “You gave me a life. You showed me that a home isn't made of steel and marble... it’s made of love, truth, and the courage to protect it.”
