Chapter 5 - The Interrogation and Betrayal

In the high-security holding facility across town, Chloe Jenkins—formerly known as Kelsey—pasted on her best tearful expression as federal investigator Miller sat across the steel interrogation table.
“I didn't know anything about embezzlement!” Chloe sobbed, dabbing dry eyes with a manicured finger. “Grant told me he was a self-made billionaire! He bought me this dress! He promised to divorce his wife and put me on the deed to his penthouse!”
Investigator Miller slid a printed bank wire summary across the table.
“Ms. Jenkins, according to these records, over four hundred thousand dollars of corporate subsidiary funds were transferred directly into a shell account under your maiden name yesterday afternoon,” Miller stated evenly. “That isn't a romance; that is a coordinated financial conspiracy.”
Chloe’s tearful facade melted instantly. Her face hardened into a sharp, bitter scowl as she crossed her arms over her chest.
“That stupid bastard,” she hissed, venom dripping from every word. “He swore he had total control over his family’s trust! He told me his wife was a helpless invalid who would sign away her rights the moment he pressured her!”
“Well, it turns out Mr. Ashford was mistaken,” Miller replied calmly. “Now, you have a choice. You can cooperate fully with the federal prosecutor, hand over every asset purchased with those embezzled funds, and testify regarding Ashford’s deliberate concealment of corporate fraud—or you can spend the next ten to fifteen years sharing a federal penitentiary cell with women who don’t appreciate scam artists.”

Chloe stared at the document, her mind calculating survival ratios with cold, predatory efficiency.
“If I cooperate... what’s my immunity threshold?” she asked quietly.
