Chapter 3 - The Architect of Shadows

While the hospital buzzed with activity, David sat in his home study. The room was perfectly organized, every pen aligned, every book spine flush against the shelf. He was sipping a glass of scotch, watching the security feed on his tablet. He wasn't looking at the front door; he was looking at the archived files of the house's hidden cameras.

He felt no remorse. To David, his family was an extension of his own perfectionism. Maya’s rebellion—her poor grades, her lack of focus—was a flaw in his architecture. And a flawed structure, he believed, needed a firm hand to realign. He had used small, calculated doses of emetics and psychological manipulation to keep her in a state of dependency.

He picked up his phone and dialed his lawyer. "She’s starting to vocalize," he said calmly, his tone as detached as if he were discussing a business merger. "The mother is hysterical. I need the narrative shifted before they leave the hospital. Start the process of requesting a psychological evaluation for them both. Label it as 'familial stress-induced psychosis.'"

He hung up, satisfied. He had successfully gaslit everyone around him for nearly two decades; he was certain he could do it again.
