Chapter 4 - The Unraveling

Back at the hospital, Detective Miller arrived. He wasn't the police officer David expected. He was a man who had seen the darkest corners of human nature. He didn't look at Sarah with suspicion; he looked at her with an intensity that demanded honesty.

"Mrs. Miller, we found something in the blood work," the detective began, his voice low. "Traces of a chemical compound, something used in industrial cleaning, yet it was found in Maya’s system. And the physical trauma? It’s consistent with prolonged, controlled restraint."

Sarah felt the last vestiges of her marriage crumble. The man she had loved, the man she had defended, was a chemist of cruelty. She pulled out her phone, opened the photo gallery, and handed it to the detective. It was a digital diary she had kept—not of their life, but of the times David had "fixed" Maya.

"I thought I was being a supportive wife," she wept. "I thought I was helping him raise a 'strong' daughter. I didn't realize I was watching him torture her."

The detective nodded grimly. "You weren't his partner, Sarah. You were his witness. And now, you’re going to be his undoing."
