Chapter 8 - The Siege of the Estate

The sun dipped below the horizon, plunging the sprawling Hudson River estate into deep, impenetrable shadows.
Inside our cottage, all the smart-lights had been switched off, casting the rooms in a dim, amber glow. Mama sat on the sofa holding me tightly in her lap, while outside, the heavy crunch of gravel signaled the arrival of four armored black SUVs carrying Alejandro’s elite personal security detail.
Alejandro stood by the reinforced glass window, holding a secure satellite phone to his ear while scanning the tree line with night-vision binoculars.
"Report," Alejandro barked into the phone.
"Boss, perimeter sensors on the north ridge have just tripped," Dante’s voice crackled through the encrypted earpiece. "Multiple heat signatures moving through the treeline. They’re professional-grade—silenced weapons, thermal gear. They’re bypassing our outer gates."
"They're not here for a negotiation," Alejandro said coldly, sliding his hand beneath his suit jacket to check the weight of his Sig Sauer pistol. "They’re here to wipe out everyone who knows about the syndicate’s involvement in Victoria’s plot. That includes my house."
"We’re holding the main house, Boss, but your cottage is isolated near the river path—"
"Get a tactical team down to the cottage right now," Alejandro ordered. "If a single hair on Martha or Emma’s head is harmed, I will personally burn the Geneva council to ash."
Before Dante could answer, a sharp thump echoed against the side of the cottage.
Glass shattered in the kitchen.
"Stay down!" Alejandro roared, moving with terrifying speed. He shoved the heavy oak sofa backward to create a protective barrier, pushed Mama and me behind it, and drew his weapon in a single fluid motion.
The front door exploded inward in a cloud of splinters and white smoke.
Two masked figures in black tactical gear poured through the doorway, assault rifles raised, sweeping the living room with red laser sights.

Alejandro didn't hesitate. Two rapid gunshots cracked through the small room like thunder. Both intruders dropped instantly before they could even squeeze their triggers.
More boots thundered across the front porch. The siege had begun.
