Chapter 5 - The Fall of Maison Delacour

While Karen stood frozen on the marble floor, processing a choice that would alter the course of her entire existence, the wheels of corporate and underworld retribution were already turning outside on Madison Avenue.

Arthur Vance, the Rossi family attorney, stood by the entrance with his phone pressed to his ear, calmly orchestrating the financial execution of the luxury boutique.

“Yes, execute the buyout clause immediately,” Arthur instructed the corporate banking division over the encrypted line. “Liquidate their commercial lease, seize all physical inventory for asset forfeiture under code violation 44-B, and ensure the parent holding company in Milan is notified that Rossi Global is calling in all their outstanding credit lines.”

Across the boutique, Brenda Wallace’s phone began to ring.

Then her assistant’s phone rang.

Then the store’s main landline started shrilling incessantly, creating a chaotic chorus of alarms.

Brenda pulled out her smartphone with trembling, manicured fingers. Her face turned from pale to absolute ash within three seconds.

“Mr… Mr. Rossi?” Brenda stammered, her voice cracking as she dropped her phone onto the glass counter. It clattered loudly against the surface. “The… the corporate office just called. They said… they said our lease has been terminated effective immediately. All accounts are frozen. The police are outside—they’re seizing the store for regulatory violations!”

Lorenzo didn’t even bother turning around to look at her. He kept his dark eyes fixed entirely on Karen.

“A house built on cruelty deserves to crumble,” Lorenzo said coldly, his voice echoing through the silent showroom.

Through the massive floor-to-ceiling glass windows of Maison Delacour, Karen watched in sheer disbelief as two unmarked federal vehicles pulled up to the curb. Uniformed city inspectors accompanied by armed marshals stepped out, slapping a large, red official SEIZED notice across the front glass doors of the boutique.

Passersby stopped on the sidewalk to stare, taking photographs and whispering.

Brenda let out a choked sob, sinking heavily onto a velvet display stool. Her multi-million-dollar career, her status, and her arrogant reign over Madison Avenue had been obliterated in less than five minutes simply because she chose to humiliate the wrong person in front of the wrong father.

Karen turned her gaze slowly back to Lorenzo. The sheer, terrifying scale of his influence was staggering. He didn't just bend the rules; he rewrote them on a whim.

“Well, Miss Seymour,” Lorenzo asked quietly, tilting his head. “Have you made your decision? Because the paperwork is already waiting in my car, and my daughter seems to think you belong with us.”

Little Mia, sensing the tension, tugged gently on Karen’s coat sleeve and looked up with wide, hopeful eyes.

“Stay with us, Karen,” the little girl whispered.

Karen looked down at the cardboard box in her hands—the symbol of her exhausting, endless struggle to survive in a city that chewed people like her up and spat them out. Then she looked up at the billionaire who commanded empires yet knelt on the floor for his child.

Slowly, deliberately, Karen let go of the cardboard box. It dropped to the marble floor with a dull thud.

“I’ll take the job, Mr. Rossi,” Karen said clearly, her voice steady in the quiet room. “But on one condition.”

Lorenzo raised a single dark eyebrow, surprised and intrigued. “Name it.”

“You stop calling me Miss Seymour,” Karen replied, a faint, defiant smile touching her lips. “If I’m going to help raise your daughter, we need to be a team.”

A slow, genuine smile broke across Lorenzo’s face—a rare, devastating expression that transformed the dangerous mafia boss into a breathtaking man.

“Deal, Karen,” Lorenzo said, offering her his hand.

When Karen placed her hand in his, she knew there was no turning back. She had just stepped through the looking glass into a world of immense wealth, dark secrets, and lethal protection.

And her new life was about to begin.
