Chapter 6 - The Negotiation at Gunpoint

The heavy steel sliding doors of the hangar groaned as they slowly ground open, letting in the cool, salt-tinged breeze of San Francisco Bay at dusk.
Standing in the opening was Victor Moretti—a heavly built, silver-haired syndicate boss from the California chapter, flanked by a dozen heavily armed enforcers holding submachine guns across their chests. Moretti wore an expensive cashmere overcoat, a gold Rolex gleaming on his wrist, and a smug, predatory smile on his face.
"Frederick!" Moretti boomed, his voice echoing off the cavernous metal walls. "I hear your little trip to Chicago hit some turbulence. Three million down the drain, and now you're flying around random civilians on private jets. Have you gone soft in your old age?"
Frederick stood twenty paces away, his hands resting casually at his sides, his posture relaxed yet radiating absolute, lethal dominance. He didn't blink. He didn't flinch.
"The Chicago deal was structured poorly, Victor. I walked away from it," Frederick said, his voice carrying effortlessly across the concrete. "You didn't need to fly up from Los Angeles to discuss my portfolio."
"Oh, it's not just your portfolio I'm interested in," Moretti sneered, taking a slow step forward, signaling two of his guards to fan out to the flanks. "Word on the street is that your security grid is failing. You got ambushed in Terminal B today. And worse... you're dragging ordinary people into our war. Who was that woman on the plane, Frederick? A new girlfriend? A convenient hostage?"
As Moretti spoke those words, a chilling silence settled over the hangar.
High above on the shadow-shrouded catwalks, Marco’s finger tightened fractionally on the trigger of his sniper rifle, sighting directly down on the center of Victor Moretti’s forehead. All he needed was a single word from the boss.
Frederick didn't give the word yet. Instead, a dangerous, razor-thin smile touched his lips—a smile that made even Moretti’s veteran enforcers instinctively take a half-step back.
"Victor," Frederick said softly, stepping closer. "You've made a fundamental miscalculation today."
"Is that right?" Moretti scoffed. "And what's that?"
"You think that because I care about someone, it makes me weak," Frederick’s voice dropped into a low, rumbling bass that carried the weight of an approaching avalanche. "In reality... it just means I'm no longer constrained by caution."
Before Moretti could process the warning, Frederick flicked his wrist. Two tactical flash-bang grenades dropped from his palm, hitting the concrete floor between Moretti’s feet with a sharp metallic clatter.
FLASH! BANG!
A blinding white explosion of light and a deafening shockwave shattered the acoustics of the hangar. Moretti’s men screamed, stumbling backward, dropping their weapons as disorientation blinded them.
Simultaneously, the overhead catwalks erupted into action.
“Down on the ground! Do it now!” Marco and four tactical operatives rappelled down from the rafters, landing with tactical precision behind Moretti’s disoriented guards, sweeping their legs and slamming them against the concrete before they could even draw their sidearms.
Frederick moved with terrifying speed. He closed the distance to Victor Moretti in two strides, grabbed the syndicate boss by his expensive cashmere collar, and slammed him hard against the side of an armored SUV, pressing the cold barrel of his SIG Sauer directly under Moretti’s chin.
Moretti gasped, his face twisted in sheer terror, his arrogant swagger completely evaporated.
"F-Frederick... wait! We're family! We're partners!" Moretti choked out, his hands clawing uselessly at Frederick’s wrists.
"We were never partners, Victor," Frederick whispered, his eyes burning with cold fury. "And if you ever mention that woman or that child again—if you ever so much as look in their direction—I won't just take your territory. I will erase your entire bloodline from this coast. Do you understand me?"
Moretti nodded frantically, his breath coming in ragged gasps. "I understand! I swear to God, I understand!"
May you like
Frederick shoved him away with contempt, letting Moretti crumple onto the wet pavement. He turned to Marco, who was zip-tying the remaining enforcers.
"Load them into their own vans and dump them outside city limits," Frederick ordered coldly. "If any of them try to come back, shoot on sight."
