Chapter 2 - The Cleanup Crew

Chloe’s screams tore through the silence of the multi-million-dollar estate, a jagged, agonizing sound that echoed off the vaulted ceilings. She lay contorted on the imported Italian marble of the foyer, her left leg bent at a sickening, unnatural angle. Blood pooled beneath her styled blonde hair, staining the white stone crimson.
Victoria stood at the top of the stairs, her hands resting protectively over her eight-month-pregnant belly. Her breathing was steady, her face an unreadable mask of absolute ice.
Below her, the scene playing out was a masterpiece of human depravity.
Julian, the man who had promised to love and protect Victoria, didn't even glance at his little sister crying in a puddle of her own blood. Instead, his eyes darted to the black canister of industrial grease sitting near the banister.
“Julian! Help me! My back! I can’t feel my legs!” Chloe shrieked, tears streaming down her pale face.
“Shut up, Chloe, just wait a second!” Julian hissed violently. He sprinted toward the canister, grabbing it with shaking hands. He yanked his mother, Eleanor, by the arm. “Mom! Get the towels! We have to wipe the stairs down before the ambulance gets here! If the cops see this grease, we’re going to prison for attempted murder!”
“But it wasn’t supposed to be her!” Eleanor sobbed hysterically, dropping to her knees and scrubbing frantically at the top step with a microfiber cloth. “It was supposed to be Victoria! The fat cow was supposed to fall!”
Victoria didn't scream. She didn't cry.
Instead, she calmly reached into her silk robe, pulled out her smartphone, and hit record.
Through the high-definition lens of her phone, she captured the undeniable truth: a mother and son aggressively destroying a crime scene while their own flesh and blood lay paralyzed and bleeding at the bottom of the stairs.
“Hurry up! Use the degreaser from the kitchen!” Julian ordered his mother, kicking a towel down the stairs to wipe the lower steps. “If Victoria wakes up and sees this, the insurance policy is void! We get nothing!”
We get nothing.
The words echoed in Victoria’s mind. They had calculated the price of her life and her unborn child’s life, and decided it was worth $1.5 million.
After recording three full minutes of crystal-clear 4K video, capturing both their panicked confessions and their active tampering with evidence, Victoria ended the recording. It automatically uploaded to her private, secure cloud server.
Only then did she step out of the shadows, turning on the blazing chandelier lights that illuminated the entire grand staircase.
“What in God’s name is going on here?!” Victoria screamed, channeling every ounce of theatrical terror she could muster.
Julian snapped his head up, his face draining of all color. He kicked the towel behind the hallway planter. Eleanor shoved the grease canister beneath a velvet bench.
“Victoria! Honey! Stay back!” Julian shouted, his voice cracking as he slipped perfectly into the role of the terrified, devoted husband. “Chloe fell! The—the stairs were wet! A leak from the roof, I think! Don’t come down, it’s slippery!”
Victoria carefully walked down the stairs, her hand gripping the banister tightly, her eyes locked on Julian’s terrified face.
“Have you called 911?” Victoria demanded.
May you like
Julian froze. In his panic to hide the evidence, he hadn't even dialed for an ambulance.
“I’m doing it right now,” Victoria said coldly, pulling her phone to her ear. “And Julian? The roof isn't leaking. The sky outside is completely clear.”
