Chapter 7 - The Dust Settles

The following weeks were a blur of depositions, forensic accounting, and media storms. The story of my father's construction company—the "Golden Legacy"—being hollowed out by a parasitic son-in-law became a headline sensation.
I had to face the board of directors. These were men who had watched me grow up, who had seen me as a vibrant, capable young woman before my father’s death and my subsequent "disappearance" into marriage. Walking into that boardroom was the hardest thing I had ever done. I felt the bruises beneath my makeup; I felt the trauma of the nights spent on the hardwood floor.
I didn't try to hide my past. I leaned into it.
"I was not 'unstable'," I told the board, looking each man in the eye. "I was isolated. I was manipulated. I was silenced. But I never stopped watching. I never stopped learning. And while Brandon was busy skimming from the foundation, I was busy documenting the architecture of his ruin."

I presented my plan for the Westview Project. It wasn't just about saving the company; it was about honoring the vision my father had for sustainable, ethical building. I proposed a complete overhaul of the project, replacing the cheap, dangerous materials Brandon had sourced with the high-quality, long-lasting ones specified in the original blueprints.
The board members were stunned. The shift in power was absolute. I wasn't the grieving widow anymore; I was the CEO who had engineered the takedown of her own oppressor.
